Track Name: Eastern Windsong
EASTERN WINDSONG

There's a place I have been, when the strange flags came in
Then to leave with their cargoes in store
And the seagulls converse, while the stevadores curse
Every ship that would leave its home shore
And it's all a surprise unto each young boy's eyes
With the summer vacation near end

And behind the screen door's closing
Words of warning trailing through the yard
But the hangouts all were chosen
It wasn't just a show of disregard
And the eastern windsong rippled with each day that seemed a year
Throwing stones that never landed, seeing both sides of the mirror

Morning kitchen was a time when
Wood and coal would crackle at our backs
All the fences could be climbed then
In a world of rusty railroad tracks
And the eastern windsong echoed, calling children by their names
From the swimming holes in morning to the evening streetlight games

Daylong hockey by the trestle
Frozen toes each flashing pain in spurts
In the darkness then to nestle
See dance time sisters, crinolines and skirts
And the eastern windsong whispered, til I drop off into sleep
Being much too kind to tell me of what I will have to keep

There's a place that I know, where the trains come and go
And the platform with suitcases fill
And I go there at night, when the full moon is bright
And the nighthawks are calling so shrill
And it's all a surprise unto each young boy's eyes
With the summer vacation near end
Track Name: Featherweight
FEATHERWEIGHT

On your way featherweight, go out find your place in the world
And some tall trees where your wings will unfurl
And rise above on the windsong while the centuries turn

Off you go featherweight, your first few small steps on your own
Your fences are the stars high above
Though you're knee high at best to a mill grinder's stone

I see you're waiting for your place in the sun
And I'll stand behind you down the long road to come

Count on me featherweight, you know that I've big dreams for you
Held together on a wing, prayer and glue
So please don't be shy you've got growing to do

Step aside featherweight and just look at what you have become
A nest there in the boughs high above
Safely out of harm's way up on your highest rung

I see you're waiting for your place in the sun
And I'll stand behind you down the long road to come

Fare thee well featherweight, who'd believe that this day would come true
But the years waste no time passing through
The revolve and rebound in the light's changing hue
And with a touch of regret slowly slip out of view

On your way featherweight, go out find your place in the world
And some deep earth where your roots will unfurl
And call that space home now while the centuries turn
Track Name: Calm Within The Storm
CALM WITHIN THE STORM

The earth reveals itself in all her glory
We're standing by on feet of clay
As nature demonstrates in all her splendour
The price that we will have to pay
Ironclad evidence in every corner
Since greed assumed its faceless form
So sad to see the world in all its grandeur
Seek calm within the storm

The seawall strains against a new horizon
One looming dark from far off shore
The race is on to reach an understanding
The race is on to bar the door
Mismanaged arrogance may throw the balance
And blur the landscapes they transform
The answer in our grasp is drifting farther
From calm within the storm

(Bridge)

When you're lost in time, counting the cost of time
The planet pays no mind to our concern
Great glaciers form the line, like yardsticks of decline
The roadway serpentine, nowhere to turn

The earth reveals itself in all her glory
Sun shine on the human race
And nature demonstrates in all her splendour
The long ascent that we must face
How can it be our chance may soon be squandered
Exotic weather morphs into the norm
In a sea of space the earthrise fragile beauty
Calm within the storm
Ironclad evidence in every corner
Since greed assumed its faceless form
So sad to see the world in all its grandeur
Seek calm within the storm
Track Name: Crystal Clear
CRYSTAL CLEAR

Everybody's calling, everybody's asking me why this all went down
Anyone who's been there when love turns the other way
Knows it takes all that to unmake my day
You might say you knew me when, you might say it all began
By the cold moonlight, well at least you got that right
I will tell you before long, I got too much going on
I'll bide my time from there to here, now I see that crystal clear

All the cool contenders
Try their best to hitch a ride on some passing train
Hear the whistle blowing
Seems like your chance has come and gone
Looking like this time, we see who belongs
You might say you knew me when, you might say it all began
By the cold moonlight, well you ain't got that right
I am through with wasting time, I got bigger hills to climb
It's a blessing in disguise, crystal clear before my eyes
Crystal clear before my eyes
Can't work both sides of the mirror, now I see that crystal clear
Track Name: Island
ISLAND

For three days straight the sky's been overcast
Rain streaked windows tracing highways to the past
Stand lookout from a crownested mast
For any sign of change that is bound to last

The expression of the sky was all wrong
Here in the morning of this low ceiling dawn
For the fourth time this week to respond
On such short notice to the setting we've drawn

Island child, answers the wind and tide
Everyone's asking for what you hold inside

Counting each stolen instant that's won
While so many others are forever undone
And left for the price of just one
Days of waiting for a glimpse of the sun

Lost amid the breakers beyond
The outstretched fingers of land are all gone
And waking in the arms of some shore
Never daring to look back anymore

Island child, answers the wind and tide
Everyone's asking for what you hold inside

Some months later a small stream was crossed
I found a footprint of mine in the dust
'Twas uncovered by a northerly gust
Leaving me considering my own wanderlust

The southwest channel still gather clay
It sweeps in slowly and it grows day by day
Building bridges to the landfalls that lay
Someone told me love is often that way
Someone told me love is often that way
Someone told me love is often that way
Track Name: Summer Rain
SUMMER RAIN

An old country road we used to walk, through suppertime and wistful talk
When time was worn so well aware
And kisses blend like coffee cream, we'd cast a line and cast a dream
Held suspended then and there
Freedom comes but once to some, it gives a helping hand
Gentle as the summer rain will fall
All goes well to wend along the woodland bordered clay
Then retrace our steps back home again

Your image as someone who sees, the world as being quite at ease
Home and serenity obey
But I know of falling rain, in storms outlasting love's remain
Where gales cut loose and timbers sway
But holding you so close at night is like a dream fulfilled
I'm like someone I'll never be
The summer rain from heaven sent surrounds us where we sleep
Another day is welcome to begin

Wisdom in a word had warned me of forever
The meaning fell and washed away
Until I found it on a hillside there eroded
Laying down where wilted crops decay

In a stone cold grey October sky, southward now the sundogs lie
You know I often wonder how you are
Reminiscing through these letters now, at all the passing years allow
Preserved as if still fresh inside a jar
For when I need you near like this, the summer rain is gone
Its dew has fallen miles afar
Leaving vanished promises from here to yesterday
That never quite will wash me clean again
Track Name: In The Distance
IN THE DISTANCE

In the distance, sad eyes can hope to pierce the dusky veil
Withdrawing before nightfall with a tale
In the distance, can there be a brand new day

In the distance, on take for granted streets and avenues
Passerbys with everything to lose
In the distance, there must be a brand new day

And who could fail to wonder, why more's asked of some than you or me
And who would take exception, when no light shines upon this mystery
So they struggle onward, hoping someone's listened to their plea
In the distance, can there be a brand new day

And it grieves me, for every child still down the road to come
For each wooden crutch still not delivered from
In the distance, there must be a brand new day

The halls are empty, in every prison senses sometimes use
To pitiness a thousand times refused
In the distance, can there be a brand new day

Lord it gets so lonely, with only dreams to set them free
They set forth when it's early, along the highways sea to sea
And upon returning, they take their place so patiently
In the distance, there must be a brand new day

In the distance, when Easter season turns my gaze within
To find answers where the questions just begin
In the distance, I can see a brand new day
In the distance, I can see a brand new day
In the distance, I can see a brand new day
Track Name: Walk On Again
WALK ON AGAIN

Walk on again, there's an old familiar song that keeps returning
And it leads me where the highways never end
But just for now I'd like to find a way back to
The place that I believe in, as I walk on again

Walk on tonight, in the shadows close behind a dream lies wasted
And whatever I might do won't make it right
Remembering the words I chose to make it so
I never would be leaving, as I walk on tonight

Where can I go to find what keeps me satisfied
Is there a way that I had told the truth and yet I somehow lied

Walk on again, and take along what comforts me in passing
If higher ground is in the cards on hand
But sometimes late at night I lose that feeling when
The ladies all are leaving, as I walk on again

What can I say to let you know how hard I tried
Is there a way to purchase happiness when my currency is pride

Walk on again, there's an old familiar song that won't let go of me
And it keeps on running down each river's bend
But please be sure I'm marking time not letting go
Of something to believe in, as I walk on again
So if it's all the same to you I might recall
So much to be believed in, as I walk on again
Track Name: Feline Way
FELINE WAY

I know, you think you're alone
It's all right, I'll be coming home
There's no way, a pampered tabby's caught in a tree
Leave it to me

Someday, if you're lost and can't find
Your way home, I'll call your name
And you'll see, me wait by the door when you run
Your paws flash in the sun

Who'll say that you can do just what you wanted to
Who'll wait up til you're home
Who'll say that you can stray off in that feline way
A can of tuna waits on your throne

Show me, you got what it takes
For true blue, to the heart of the case
And match up, with the canine reputation as friends
Well I guess that depends

Right now, there's a frost on the ground
And I see, that you're hanging around
It's just me, I see those cozy tricks up your sleeve
The cat's meow I believe

Who'll say that you can do just what you wanted to
Who'll wait up til you phone
Who'll say that you can stray off in that feline way
Some flaky chicken waits on your throne
Track Name: Rainbow Ride
RAINBOW RIDE

We were standing by the railroad track
When the sun was going down
My two little sisters and my mum and dad
Trying to find our way into town
Everything we owned was loaded on the back
Of that pickup with the rust all around
This dusty prairie's been our home since we left our own behind
We're going for a rainbow ride

It came shining through the coal black night
Like a sight I'd never seen
Lights of every color that in my mind
I'd never had the power to dream
Some were spinning up and some were twirling down
While the painted ponies circled in stride
There's a dream that we have followed and a hunger we can't hide
Westward on this rainbow ride

I knew we needed money for the gasoline
So I never offered one word
Daddy said, "It's late, so we'll stop right here"
Then took our hands as if he had heard
The carnival sounds that echoed in our minds
And I can't believe the feelings that stirred
And written on our faces was a mix of joy and pride
We were flying on the rainbow ride

The rest of the journey was a bumpy ride
Well some things never do change
Up until then I just never knew
But now my thoughts were all rearranged
If our old life was just black and white
Our future's a kaleidoscope game
There's a dream that we have followed and a hunger we can't hide
Westward on this rainbow ride

This dusty prairie's been our home since we left our own behind
We're going for a rainbow ride
Track Name: Few Are The Ones
FEW ARE THE ONES

I've been adrift for a while, finding need for returning now
Covering each rugged mile, with whatever blind faith might allow
And who are these strangers, that encircle your door
Are they ones who belong to the elite of yore
I can see by the light in the sky turning wild
Have you known all the while of which seasons won't last
And few are the ones who can carry on without reaching into the past

There on a rectangle green, an oasis so near at hand
Games that went on endlessly, days were in long demand
To be forthright and honest, those rare treasures of youth
Whose practicioners half fill a telephone booth
Looking back in the morning where the highway turns west
Holding out for a lifeline that's reeling in fast
So few are the ones who can carry on without reaching into the past

The strand at the shoreline is still, as summer has bid its farewell
The brown limbs worshiping sun are now deaf to the channel bell
If the moment emerges, may it somehow define
The place on the road where our thoughts intertwine
Looking out on the ocean as the waves fall and crest
To that homecoming summer when these impressions were cast
And few are the ones who can carry on without reaching into the past

On balance the strong will renew, it's proven by nature's will
And so years elapse day by day, space age born of a feathered quill
The earth stays in motion in complete disregard
Of any who inwardly venture too far
I can see by the light drawing close to the land
A new border lies waiting, unforgiving and vast
Yet few are the ones who can carry on without reaching into the past
Track Name: Pennywhistle Fair
PENNYWHISTLE FAIR

Autumn rust has come and now is gone, all facades are swept aside, withdrawn
Feelings stand like trees, so bent and bare, revealing days past by so wisely spent
Locked into songs, inside my room, hot August summer nights and afternoons
But sometimes slow, to take a dare
There's time enough left on the books for leaving Pennywhistle Fair

Pressing forward motion, to seek and find, beyond all our experience combined
And deep impressions, we came to share, we were alive and well and underway
Direction came with passing days, on tattered roadmaps found along the way
And we could be, most anywhere
By dusting off the tracks and making haste for Pennywhistle Fair

In the still dark night we wandered
Deep into the blackness by the shore
To look across the waves and hunger
Let the timid mind the store

Those carefree days and barnstorm nights, figures change beneath the barroom lights
Straightlaced can bind and freedom tear, we'd pick and choose our way between the two
Temptation rides the summer wind, it meets you in the place you've never been
What's wrong is wrong, what's right ain't fair
We tried them one and all back in the day in Pennywhistle Fair

In the still dark night we wandered
Roads intercepted by the shore
Then look across the waves and hunger
Ever onward evermore

Right from the start, I turned to you, through the journey you stood firm and true
Let's take the time and go back there and raise a glass and reminisce to knowing
A late night highway, when out of the clear, a song comes on evaporating years
Back to my room, the sultry air
Windblown through the trees that looked out over Pennywhistle Fair
